PORTRAIT SESSIONS:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s the best time to have a portrait session?

I'm a natural light photographer, so for the best lighting possible, sessions are outdoors, either half hour after sunrise or about 1 to 2 hours before sunset (depending on the session type). These times are referred to as "golden hour" and it's the most flattering. If it's a cloudy or overcast day, harsh sunlight won't be a factor so the session can be anytime.

What if the weather forecast calls for rain?

I monitor the hourly forecast a few days before your session and keep in touch with you to determine if we need to reschedule. It’s usually best to wait until the night before or morning of to decide to reschedule since the forecast can change at the last minute. If it ends up raining during our session, we’ll try again another day.

What types of sessions do you offer?

When I’m not shooting couples and weddings, I do full one hour portrait sessions for families, children, and seniors, all year-round. With families, we can do breakdown, individuals and a combination of posed and candid.

Do you offer mini sessions?

Yes. Thirty minute mini sessions are limited to 5 people and are only available 3 dates during the Spring and 3 dates during the Fall. Dates, time-slots and locations will be posted on social media two months before.

Do you do newborn sessions?

I offer lifestyle newborn (with family) sessions. In-home lifestyle newborn sessions are in a relaxed environment using natural light coming into your neat, tidy, clutter-free, neutral, bright and airy home and your furnishings as a backdrop. If your home is not as described, I may contract a home-studio space for an additional cost and depending on availability.

Where do portrait sessions take place?

Sessions are outdoors in the DC, MD, VA area and I have some go to locations I can suggest. I love to take advantage of the natural beauty of our area. For most sessions, garden or farm type environments with structures and shade areas where the light is divine are always my first choice. There are great options all around, so even if I've never photographed at a specific spot before, I'm always up for exploring a new spot together!

Do you do portrait sessions indoors?

Since I’m a natural light photographer, I almost always do sessions outdoors.  We can chat about an indoor session providing that it’s open, neutral toned, bright and airy with ample natural light coming in and is in a neat, tidy and clutter-free environment.

How can I book a session with you?

Once I receive an inquiry from you via email, phone call, text or my website, stating that you’d like to book a session and what time-frame you prefer, I’ll send you my available dates.  When we firm up session type, date and location, I'll email you an invoice for the retainer (50%) to pay online and you'll be officially booked once it's paid. Retainer is non-refundable without 7 day cancellation notice or if you're more than 30 minutes late to your session. The balance can be paid in person on the day of your session via credit, debit or cash. Mini sessions must be paid in full upfront. NOTE: Your date & time slot will be made available to other clients if the invoice is not paid within 7 days of the invoice date.

Can I print or post my photos?

Absolutely! You can order prints and wall art directly via the app (or from your fave print place)! If you post on social media, remember to download/save them to your phone or computer first (don’t use a screenshot or the quality will be diminished), and feel free to give me photo creds :-)
